Exam Pattern for CBSE UGC NET

Apart from knowing about the syllabus for your concerned subject, it is also important to know about the pattern for the exam. Being familiar with the pattern helps channelize the preparation accordingly. Below, you can find the complete details about the UGC NET Exam Pattern.

The UGC NET exam is conducted in three phases and each of the three phases consists of one exam. The questions asked in all the three exams are Objective Types.

Paper 1

First paper consists of compulsory 50 questions carrying 2 marks each. The duration of the exam is 45 minutes. This means a candidate needs to be prompt in order to answer 50 questions in 45 minutes. The exam is of general nature and is intended to assess the teaching/researching aptitude of the candidate. The exam is designed to mainly ascertain the reasoning ability, general awareness, divergent thinking and comprehension skills of the candidate.

Paper 2

The second paper also consists of compulsory 50 questions carrying 2 marks each. The duration of the exam is also 45 minutes.

Paper 3

The third paper in the UGC NET examination consists of 75 questions (compulsory) carrying 2 marks each. The duration of the exam is 2.5 hours or 150 minutes.

Note: Candidates will need to mark the answers to the questions of all Papers (Paper 1, Paper 2, and Paper 3) on the OMR (Optical Mark Reader) sheet provided along with the question paper.
